Razer wants to level up its audio, has acquired THX

THX was founded by George Lucas way back in 1983 and since then, the company has gone on to become one of the most recognisable and iconic audio specialists around. THX has had ownership changes over the years but now, the company has found a new home over at Razer.

While Razer does own THX now, the audio standards company will continue to operate independently and make its own business decisions, which will include making deals with other product makers and service providers. Commenting on the acquisition, Razer CEO, Min-Liang Tan explained that Razer has “a vision for innovation at every level of entertainment”, adding that a similar vision has been “championed” by THX since it formed.

Buying up THX will extend Razer's focus beyond gaming and into other areas of entertainment: “This acquisition will allow us to reinforce Razer's leadership in gaming and extend the brand into broader areas of entertainment, while at the same time empowering THX to develop into a global powerhouse, independently”.

THX will retain all of its current staff and continue to work with its partnering companies. However, THX will also be working with Razer to strengthen its “core line of business”, which I assume means future Razer audio products will come with a ‘THX Certified' sticker or something.

KitGuru Says: Razer has been making some fairly big acquisitions recently. Now that THX is part of the company, it will be interesting to see what future products Razer comes out with.
