Amazon have updated their 7 inch Fire HD Tablet and have added two new Fire HDX models. The latest Fire HD is lighter than the previous model and has a new processor and operating system.
The two HDX models have Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors and can be bought with up to 64GB of storage.
The new Kindle Fire HDX has a 7 inch 1920×1200 display with 323 ppi density. Amazon say that it benefits from 100 percent sRGB colour accuracy, dynamic image contrast. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor runs at 2.2ghz with 2GB of ram and 16, 32 or 64gb of memory. Graphics are handled by the Adreno 330 which is said to be 4 times better than previous Fire HD models.
The new tablet has integrated dual band, dual antenna 802.11n Wifi connectivity and can support 4G LTE. Bluetooth with A2DP support is included for listening through wireless headphones and the tablet has stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus Audio for 5.1 surround sound.
This tablet runs Android V3.0 – Mojito which has had a lot of tweaks over the previous version – email and browsing is improved and there is a better screen reader. It also has enterprise features and carousel and grid navigation.
A new MayDay button is included to help connect the user directly with an Amazon support representative within 15 seconds.
Charge time of this tablet is said to be six hours, with up to 11 hours of run time. There is an HD webcam on the front, an ambient light sensor, accelerometer and gyro and assisted GPS available on the 4G model.
The Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 features an 8.9 inch screen with a whopping 2560×1600 screen resolution with a 339 ppi density. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor runs at 2.2ghz. It has 2gb of ram and Adreno 330 graphics. It has 16, 32 and 64gb storage options with all the details listed above.
The 8.9 model is said to have an extra hour of battery life under normal circumstances and charges in 5 hours. It measures 231 mm x 158 mm x 7.8 mm.
The New Kindle Fire HD model is a 7 inch tablet starting at $139. It has a much lower 1280×800 resolution display but gets a faster 1.5ghz dual core processor with 1GB of memory and will be sold in 8gb or 16gb capacities.
It now weighs only 345g and measures 191 mm x 128 mm x 10.6 mm. It has a 10 hour battery life between charges. This will start to ship beginning of October.
