AMD alters Ryzen 7040HS specs ahead of release

The Ryzen 7040HS laptop processors were announced earlier this year, with plans to ship inside laptops before the end of Q1. In an odd turn of events, the product page for this series of CPUs has been updated ahead of launch, altering the spec sheet with lower iGPU clock speeds and removing mention of PCIe 5.0 support. 

According to Andreas Schilling, AMD has decided to drop the PCIe Gen5 support on the Ryzen 7000 “Phoenix” chips. However, the “Dragon Range” chips should still be compatible with PCIe 5.0 devices.

In a separate report from @Bionic_Squash (via VideoCardz), the user found that the iGPU specs of the three Ryzen 7040HS SKUs (7940HS, 7840HS and 7640HS) have been changed. Instead of being clocked at 2.8-3.0GHz, the Radeon 700M iGPUs will have a 200MHz deficit. That means the Radeon R780M found inside of the Ryzen 9 7940HS will feature a 2.8GHz clock speed, while the Ryzen 7 7840HS iGPU has a 2.7GHz clock speed. Lastly, the Radeon R760M in the Ryzen 5 7640HS has a 2.6 GHz clock speed.

The AMD Ryzen 7040HS series mobile chips should be available in laptops starting in March.
