AMD Ryzen 7000G desktop APUs to use Zen 4 cores and RDNA3 iGPU

AMD launched its latest desktop APUs some time ago. As such, it should be nearly time for the red team to launch a new series. It seems that's indeed happening relatively soon, as the new AGESA 1080 firmware suggests.

Support for the upcoming Phoenix Ryzen 7000G series for the AM5 platform was first noted by Reous (via HXL), who found it on the newest AGESA 1.0.8.0 software. A new BIOS with the latest AGESA version is already available on the Asus B650M-V7 motherboard website.

The Phoenix silicon has already been successfully implemented in laptops, mini-PCs, and portable consoles as the Ryzen 7040H(S), Ryzen 7040U, and Ryzen Z1 series. These come with up to eight Zen 4 cores and 12 CUs, and desktop variants shouldn't be much different. Still, this is a big improvement over Rembrandt (Zen3+/RDNA2), which was never introduced as a desktop CPU. As a reminder, the latest desktop APUs from AMD are the Ryzen 5000G series, which uses Zen 3 cores and Vega graphics.

We still don't have a date for the release of these new APUs, but these developments imply that they may become available shortly. Maybe AMD plans to unveil them on the same day as the Threadripper Pro 7000 series and the Radeon RX 7900M, which are rumoured to be launch on October 19th.
