Being a free-to-play game, Fortnite makes almost all of its money from selling in-game cosmetic items and battle passes – both of which require the use of an in-game currency called V-Bucks. Previously, spending real-world money on V-Bucks would lock the currency to one system. Fortunately this is now no longer the case for all but one console.

Making the announcement on their blog, the Fortnite team revealed that “Starting with the upcoming v20.40 update, V-Bucks purchased on PlayStation may be used across platforms that support Fortnite Shared Wallet (PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Android, and cloud gaming services).”

With this latest addition of PlayStation to the shared wallet program, the only console left which runs Fortnite yet does not allow support for the service is the Nintendo Switch.

The PC platform has always been the most open of all video game markets, followed by Microsoft and Xbox in recent years. PlayStation has historically been more traditional of a gaming platform holder and so it makes sense that it took longer for the functionality to come to the system.

With PlayStation finally embracing cross platform support for this in-game currency, hopefully Nintendo will follow suit soon.
