Overclockers manage to push Core i7-6700K over 7GHz

Two overclockers, Der8auer and Dancop have managed to achieve the fastest Skylake frequency on record, using an Asus ROG Maximus VIII Gene motherboard to push an Intel Core i7-6700K past the 7GHz barrier. The exact frequency achieved was 7007.85MHz, which sets a new record for overclocks using Intel's latest Skylake chips.

This was spotted over on the CPU-Z validator, the listing also shows off everything else used in the system, including 8GB of G.Skill DDR4 RAM and a copy of Windows XP. This overclock was achieved using one of the four cores enabled, with the multiplier cranked up 69x and the base clock frequency set to 101.56MHz.

At first, the pair of overclockers managed to push the Core i7 6700K to 4.8Ghz using air cooling put managed to push it much higher with LN2. You can see the results for yourself, HERE.

KitGuru Says: That's a pretty massive overclock. Do any of you guys like to play around with overclocking? What's the highest frequency you've achieved?
