An experimental third-party tool called NvpwrControl has appeared on GitHub, letting owners of Nvidia Blackwell laptop GPUs increase their graphics power limits by up to 40W beyond OEM factory targets.
First spotted by VideoCardz, the NvpwrControl tool, which was developed by a creator named LevinAI, bypasses OEM power restrictions by modifying a low-level Nvidia power policy that isn't typically exposed to users. Mobile Nvidia Blackwell GPUs often have a power limit of 150W at most, with an additional 25W of Dynamic Boost allocation. By elevating power targets from stock levels, the tool aims to unlock additional compute headroom. As of now, the whole GeForce RTX 50 series is supported with varying levels of maturity. The TGP of the RTX 5050, 5060, and 5070 can be pushed to 140W, the RTX 5070 Ti to 180W, and the RTX 5080 and 5090 to 225W (250W in some systems).
However, applying these adjustments carries clear technical risks. Nvidia's standard controls prevent power-draw increases to protect cooling systems and power-delivery components. Also, running the utility requires disabling Windows driver signature verification. Furthermore, the program only works when it detects the specific power policy layout and OEM baseline, meaning it doesn't support non-standard power configurations.
Despite its experimental status and heavy reliance on AI-generated code, the project has progressed quickly. Several community members on Reddit have confirmed performance improvements in benchmarks such as 3DMark, though system stability and hardware longevity remain ongoing concerns.
