MSI reveals initial batch of X870 and X870E motherboards

MSI has recently unveiled its initial lineup of X870(E) motherboards, bringing more AM5 motherboards to the market. The roster is segmented between MSI's usual product lines, including MEG, MPG, MAG, and PRO, each aiming at a different kind of user.

The top-tier board is the MEG GODLIKE, which boasts high-end functionality and exudes luxury with extensive heatsink coverage, a 4-inch LCD and a layout designed to impress. Featuring a 27-phase VRM and support for DDR5-8000, this motherboard is tailored for extreme performance and memory overclocking. With a variety of connectivity options, including USB4 ports, 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2, 4x M.2 NVMe slots, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and multi-Gigabit LAN, the MEG GODLIKE stands as MSI's X870E flagship motherboard. With the motherboard, there's an EZ Control Hub (an ARGB/PMW controller) module, which is meant to be tucked away behind the motherboard tray.

The MPG Carbon WIFI is followed closely by a feature-rich board with a 21-phase CPU VRM and support for multiple Gen 4 expansion slots. While not as extravagant as the MEG GODLIKE, the MPG Carbon WIFI does not compromise on functionality, offering a well-rounded package: 40 Gbps USB4 ports, support for 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 type-C and type-A, and a set of 5 GbE + 2.5 GbE wired LAN interfaces. The WLAN setup is the same.

Moving down the lineup, the MAG Tomahawk WIFI, based on the X870 chipset, maintains a good feature set with a 17-phase VRM and robust connectivity options, including 4x M.2 NVMe slots, 40 Gbps USB4 ports with DisplayPort passthrough, 5 GbE wired LAN, and Wi-Fi 7 + BT 5.4. Rounding out the selection is the PRO-P WIFI, a mainstream board that offers a simplified architecture and essential features for a reliable gaming experience, featuring a 17-phase VRM design, USB4 ports and Wi-Fi 7.
