MSI MAG A1200PLS Platinum PSU Review

The unit adopts a Power Logic fan DC12V, 0.56A, Model number PLA13525S12H. This is a fluid dynamic bearing fan, rated at speeds up to 2,300 rpm.

MSI are using CWT as the OEM for this power supply as part of their PLS platform. There are heatsinks across the PCB which seem adequate for cooling considered the rated Platinum efficiency levels. Soldering quality is very high across the board and rear side of the PCB.

The power supply has an internal protection circuit on the 12V – 2×6 connector which steps in to resolve an issue that Nvidia failed to address on the release of their new range of graphics cards.

The primary side is a half bridge topology, with an LLC resonant converter and APFC Stage. Secondary side adopts synchronous rectification for the +12V rail and DC-DC converters generate the minor rails. There is an MOV included to protect against voltage surges.

The primary stage capacitor is a 105c unit from Taiwanese brand TEAPO. Rated 420V 1000uF. Secondary capacitors are from brands Elite, ChengX and Teapo. I am disappointed to not see 105c Rated Japanese capacitors from the likes of Nippon Chemi Con, Nichicon or Rubycon in this unit.

The unit has OCP/OTP/OPP/SCP/OVP/UVP/SIP/NLO protections in place.
