Phison showcases SSD using its new PCIe 5.0 storage controller

The era of PCIe 5.0 storage is approaching. Intel Alder Lake already supports such devices, and with the Raphael platform, AMD-based systems will also be able to use them. With the foundations almost set, it's time for the PCIe controller manufacturers to make their solutions available to SSD makers. One of those solutions is Phison's E26 SSD platform, recently showcased at Computex, paving the way for next-gen speeds.

Phison used an SSD with Micron's 3D TLC NAND and its own PS2026-E26 SSD controller on an AMD system running on an unreleased Asus X670 Crosshair Hero motherboard, as shown in a closeup during the video (via Tom's Hardware). The SSD was also tested on an Intel system that looks to be using an MSI Z690 Godlike motherboard.

It's not clear which system scored the results presented by Phison, but at least one of them achieved a 12,457 MB/s read speed and 10,023 MB/s write speed in CrystalDiskMark SEQ1M Q16T1 tests.

Other test results were also shared, including the SEQ1M Q1T1's 4045.96MB/s read and 8840.39MB/s write, RDN4K Q32T1's 5387.38MB/s read and 4763.60MB/s write, and RDN4K Q1T1's 62.82MB/s read and 341.29MB/s write.

KitGuru says: PCIe 4.0 SSDs came out the gate hitting top speeds. Will we see the same with the first PCIe 5.0 SSDs?
