PS2 emulator gets achievement support and more

PCSX2 is one of the most complete and impressive PS2 emulators currently available, allowing you to play over 99% of the console’s library with minimal-to-no issues. As part of the latest update, PCSX2 is now getting achievement support and more.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the RetroAchievements team revealed that “We are gladly able to announce that the Playstation 2 is now a supported platform on RetroAchievements with over 80 sets on launch date and more following soon. The only supported emulator will be PCSX2 and requires Windows 10 or higher.”

Sony did not introduce the concept of achievements/trophies until the PS3 generation, meaning no PS2 game offered anything in the way of achievements/trophies. As such, seeing RetroAchievements now support PS2 is exciting – even if ‘only’ 92 titles are supported so far.

This is not all, however. As PCSX2 also now supports Discord Rich Presence, meaning your Discord friends will be able to see when you are playing PCSX2 and what game you're playing. Though not the biggest feature in the world, its integration is much appreciated.

Emulation is vital for game preservation and so to see the PCSX2 team continue to improve the game playing experience is exciting. It will be interesting to see what else the team has planned for the future.
