Steam announces family library sharing overhaul

Of all major platforms, Steam has been one of the best when it comes to allowing families to share their game libraries. In a surprising move, Steam’s family program has now been expanded in an even more consumer-friendly manner.

Making the announcement on their blog, the team at Valve said “Steam Families is a collection of new and existing family-related features. It replaces both Steam Family Sharing and Steam Family View, giving you a single location to manage which games your family can access and when they can play.”

As part of this revamp, those listed as your family members will be able to share their libraries with you easily and vice-versa – without needing any workarounds.

Additionally, you will be able to “create your own saved games, earn your own Steam achievements, have access to workshop files and more” – similar to the old system.

What is new however is the ability to play each other’s games even while your family members are online and in-game, removing the one primary limitation with Steam’s old family sharing program.
