Steam surpasses itself once again with 36 million concurrent players

Over the past few years, the Steam platform has seen strong and consistent growth, with the PC-based service reaching record numbers of concurrent players every few months. Just recently however, the service has seen a massive surge in players, having now reached 36 million concurrents – one week after hitting 35m.

A couple weeks ago we reported on Steam’s new concurrent users record, with over 34 million players online all at once. Then, on the 2nd of March the platform outdid itself once again, reaching 35.3 million concurrents.

It seems the Steam train has no plans on stopping any time soon, with it now having grown to a new peak of 36,354,393 players – the first time to pass 36 million.

Of course, peak concurrents is just one way to observe Steam’s success. That said, when looking at average monthly player counts, the service is no slouch either, with over 25 million players on average over the past 30 days.

Being able to publicly see just how much Steam is continuing to grow more than a decade on from its launch is interesting for multiple reasons – including pure curiosity. It likely won’t be long before the platform hits 40 million concurrents.
