Bethesda teasingly responds to Walmart’s Just Cause 4, Gears of War 5 and Rage 2 listing

Yesterday, Walmart Canada managed to turn heads with new pre-order listings surrounding as-of-yet unannounced titles, such as Just Cause 4, Gears of War 5 and Rage 2. With a little tongue in cheeks, Bethesda revived its official Rage Twitter account to poke fun at the authenticity of the listings.

Many of the titles in Walmart’s listing have already been confirmed as in development, with many expected to turn up at this year’s E3. While more details will undoubtedly crop up for The Last of Us 2, Beyond Good and Evil 2 and, hopefully, Borderlands 3, a few titles in particular stood out among the rest.

The first questionable item within the listing is ‘Dragon Quest 2’, when Square Enix released its eleventh entry into the series just last year in Japan, with a European release slated for this upcoming September. Considering Japan usually sees the release of a Dragon Quest game a significant period of time before its localisation, it casts doubt as to what this mysterious title might be.

Forza Horizon 5 is also incredibly notable, given that Microsoft has yet to release a fourth entry into the racing series, however this could simply be a typo similar to that of Assassin’s Creed missing the possessive apostrophe.

These mistakes, along with the use of generic white font on top of a plain black background makes the listing look increasingly like a fan project rather than a credible leak, prompting Rage’s official Twitter account to end its lengthy hiatus to give some pointers.

Despite how questionable some of the listings are, there is a chance that Rage 2 might be in development 8 years after its predecessor released. Bethesda is said to have two big announcements during this year’s E3, one of which is rumoured to be a new IP bearing the working title of ‘Starfield’ but the other might very well be the anticipated sequel.

KitGuru Says: Gears of War 5 is almost a sure thing, while Just Cause 4 is likely thanks to the continuing success of the franchise. Rage 2 is much more of an oddball, but in my opinion, that makes it all the more exciting. Would you be happy for Bethesda to announce a Rage sequel?
