7 Days to Die is finally leaving early access after 12 years

When a game enters early access, it might take a long time to reach version 1.0. Most games take less than two years to achieve that, but there are a few that extend way beyond that. 7 Days to Die is one such game, as it's finally leaving early access after 12 years.

Studio, The Fun Pimps, has revealed that 7 Days To Die will finally exit Early Access and be upgraded to version 1.0 in June 2024. The game was initially announced via a Kickstarter campaign in July 2013. The initial Alpha version was made available in August 2013, and the game was eventually published on Steam Early Access in December 2013.

SteamDB data shows the concurrent player count for 7 Days To Day has largely increased since its debut, with some significant peaks and dips. During its lifetime, it peaked at 96,827 concurrent players in July 2023. However, nowadays, the player base peaks at 30,000-40,000 players. With version 1.0, we expect these figures to increase.

The Fun Pimps announced that it will continue to support 7 Days to Die development with the majority of its resources. The game will get several new features and upgrades for the 1.0 release, including a new challenge system, more zombie types, and gore updates.

Like other Early Access titles, the 1.0 launch will be accompanied by a price increase. If you didn't already buy the game at its $24.99 price point, then you'll want to grab it soon as 1.0 will see the price jump up to $44.99.

The roadmap also shows that the developer plans to launch the Xbox Series X and S and PlayStation 5 console versions of 7 Days To Die in July 2024, with cross-play functionality planned for the PC version in Q4 2024. Besides that, players can expect a story mode, overhauls to the UI, menus, biomes, weather and trader systems, and new systems for in-game events and character outfit sets.

KitGuru Games: Predicting PlayStation’s Portable Plans

The popularity of handhelds have waxed and waned over the years/generations as console maker priorities have shifted and audience trends changed. That said the launch of the Nintendo Switch ushered us into a new handheld renaissance of sorts. With rumours claiming that Sony is looking to once again re-enter the market, it is time we looked back to the portable PlayStation’s past successes, failures, and lessons (hopefully) learned for what (and what not) to do.
