Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 gets new anti-cheat upgrades

Activision's Ricochet Anti-Cheat team has detailed some early plans it has in place for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. This year, they are introducing server culling to the anti-cheat system, which should help combat wallhacking.

Wallhacks typically work by capturing player location data across a server, letting cheaters see opponents through walls and objects. To prevent this, server culling withholds location data whenever the server determines an opponent shouldn't be visible to a player. As Activision's anti-cheat team explains, cheat software can't reveal information it never receives.

To support the system, Infinity Ward is building every Modern Warfare 4 map with additional occlusion layers to help the server filter out unnecessary positioning data. Activision confirmed that server culling will also roll out to DMZ and Combat Outpost modes, along with future live season maps for multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone starting in Season 1.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23rd for PC across Steam, Xbox, and Battle.net, as well as Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

KitGuru says: Hopefully, more developers will learn from Activision and use this system to reduce the cheat issues plaguing online gaming.
