Elden Ring Nightreign will not have 2-player co-op at launch

Elden Ring Nightreign is the new multiplayer spin-off, inviting players to group up to take down tough bosses in From Software's usual gameplay style. However, the game will be quite strict on groups, allowing for only solo or three-player teams. That may change after launch though, with the developers now discussing a 2-player option.

When asked about the lack of 2-player mode in an interview with IGN, Elden Ring Nightreign director, Junya Ishizaki, stated that the idea of a 2-player mode was ‘overlooked' during development, but is now being looked at for a post-launch update.

Ishizaki noted that players will be “generally encouraged” to operate independently and complete objectives even within three-player co-op. For those planning to play alone, the developers have adjusted the “activeness and aggressiveness of enemies” to ensure solo players don't encounter “unreasonable multi-foe fights”.

Despite this initial limitation for duos, there remains hope for future updates. Ishizaki has stated that such an option could be implemented in an upcoming update. Besides that, FromSoftware had already said that post-launch support for Elden Ring Nightreign will include additional bosses, foes, classes, and other features.
