CD Projekt Red will return to the Witcher franchise

Prior to its launch and massive mainstream success, CD Projekt Red was pitching The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as its last entry to the series and while it may still be the end of Geralt's story, the studio won't be leaving the franchise behind entirely. After winning in three huge categories at the annual Game Awards this year, CD Projekt Red has decided that leaving the series would be “unfair to the fans”.

CD Projekt's CEO, Adam Kicinski, made the comments himself in an interview with Polish TV station, TVN24 BiS, saying: “It's too early to talk about it, but it's not like we're forgetting about this brand, that's understandable. It wouldn't be fair towards the fans. We've worked within this universe for over a dozen years now and I don't think it's going to be the end of it.”

While this may not be the last game in the Witcher franchise after all, it will be quite some time before anything is announced. After all, CD Projekt Red also has its next big RPG in the works, known as Cyberpunk 2077, which will hopefully allow the studio to branch out and show that it can deliver more than just a solid fantasy RPG experience.

For now though, 2016 is going to be focussed on The Witcher 3 and its final expansion, Blood and Wine. Then in 2017, we will start hearing more about Cyberpunk 2077, so don't expect a new Witcher game announcement soon, though there will likely be one eventually.

KitGuru Says: CD Projekt Red has gone on to be one of the most highly praised studios in the industry and hopefully its next game will help the studio branch out and be known for more than just the Witcher series. Would any of you like to see a new game in the series? How would you feel about a game not starring Geralt?
