EA confirms Iron Man game will use Unreal Engine 5

EA Motive has impressed us with games like Star Wars: Squadrons and Dead Space Remake. Now, the studio is turning its attention to its big Iron Man game. Announced last year, the project officially entered production earlier this year and recent updates have revealed that the game will be built on Unreal Engine 5.

After Anthem, it became pretty clear that EA could have made a decent Iron Man game. Anthem ultimately failed due to its poorly planned live service elements. With EA Motive's Iron Man game, the company will not be utilising the Frostbite engine, but will instead use Epic's Unreal Engine 5 technology. While most EA games do continue to use Frostbite, we've seen a few notable exceptions in recent years, including Respawn's Star Wars Jedi games, which use Unreal Engine 4.

In a blog post, EA Motive GM, Patrick Klaus, provided an update on the Iron Man game, confirming that it is being built using Unreal Engine 5. Additionally, the team has put together a group of Iron Man and Marvel fans to provide feedback on its ideas for the game as the studio gets to work.

One of the main benefits of using an engine like Unreal is that there is a wider pool of developers with experience using it, while with proprietary engines like Frostbite, there is a smaller knowledge base to work with. This should make the hiring process easier and developers won't have to wrap their heads around an entirely new set of tools to get the job done.

EA is still hiring for its Iron Man project, which is in early development.
