Former Mass Effect devs showcase new Sci-Fi RPG ‘Exodus’ at Gamescom

At Gamescom Opening Night Live this evening, the first reveal trailer for Exodus was shown. The new sci‑fi RPG is being developed by Archetype Entertainment, a studio led by former BioWare veterans including Mass Effect writer Drew Karpyshyn. The game is targeting a 2027 release, and tonight’s trailer offers a fresh look at its planet‑hopping adventure.

Exodus is set in the far future within the Omega Centauri cluster, a densely packed region of space containing millions of stars and countless habitable worlds. Humanity reaches this distant part of the galaxy thousands of years after Earth’s collapse, with multiple fleets establishing new civilizations over millennia. As these societies rise and fall, genetically modified human offshoots known as Celestials emerge, alongside powerful factions and ancient technologies.

Players take on the role of the Traveler, part of a group seeking advanced relics called Remnants. The story spans multiple human and alien factions, each with their own agendas, alliances and rivalries. Choices made throughout the game will influence political outcomes and personal relationships across the galaxy, with time dilation playing a major role, as interstellar travel can cause decades to pass for those left behind.

Honestly, it sounds and looks like an even grittier version of Mass Effect, but with a bit more of a Hard Sci-Fi slant to it. The game doesn't have an exact release date yet, but it will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox sometime in 2027, assuming there are no delays.
