Metro 2039 received a new trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live, alongside confirmation of a February 2027 release date. The next entry in 4A Games’ acclaimed post‑apocalyptic FPS series promises a darker, more expansive journey into the ruins of Moscow.
Metro 2039 follows a new protagonist known as the Stranger, a reclusive figure haunted by violent waking nightmares. When the ghosts of his past force him out of exile, he embarks on a dangerous journey back into the shattered remains of Moscow. The city’s survivors have spent 25 years locked in conflict deep within the Metro tunnels, but are now united under Hunter, a fanatical Spartan whose Novoreich regime rules through propaganda, fear and a renewed push to reclaim the surface.
Outside the Metro, a dark and terrifying enemy awaits, driving the regime’s war effort and reshaping the world above. The Stranger’s path leads through devastated wilderness, ruined districts. 4A Games describes Metro 2039 as the most shocking and immersive entry in the series to date, blending exploration, survival, stealth and intense combat across a hauntingly beautiful but deadly world.
KitGuru Says: With the February 2027 release date now set, we won’t have to wait much longer to finally make our return to the Metro tunnels.
