Metro 2039 received a new trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live, alongside confirmation of a February 2027 release date. The next entry in 4A Games’ acclaimed post‑apocalyptic FPS series promises a darker, more expansive journey into the ruins of Moscow.

Gamescom has outlined what to expect from this year’s Opening Night Live showcase, confirming several major games that will receive new trailers, updates and live appearances during the two‑hour broadcast on the 25th of August.

Xbox has had an increasingly large presence at Gamescom in recent years and 2026 will be no different, with the company set to showcase first-party titles like Gears of War E‑Day and Fable, as well as major third-party titles like Metro 2039 and even Alien Isolation 2. 

Just as promised, this evening 4A Games officially revealed the next mainline game in the Metro series. It has been a good while since Metro Exodus came out, capping off the story of Artyom and taking fans through some of the events of the final book. Now, 4A Games is preparing for its next major game, Metro 2039, and it will be announced later this week. 

7 years on from the last mainline release, 4A Games is finally ready to announce the next entry in the Metro series – 2039.
