Multiversus surpasses 140,000 concurrent players in Steam open beta

MultiVersus, WB Games' Smash Bros-style crossover fighter is now live in open beta form. The game appears to be off to a good start too, as the game managed to gain 140,000 concurrent players on Steam during day-one, accompanied by a ‘very positive' overall user rating.

Currently, MultiVersus is in open beta, so there are a couple of features still missing, but the core multiplayer modes are there, matchmaking and crossplay are in place and there are a number of characters to choose from. These include popular DC heroes like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, Cartoon Network characters like Jake and Fin from Adventure Time, and movie characters, such as the Space Jam 2 version of Lebron James.

On day one, MultiVersus peaked at over 140,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, becoming the fourth most played game on the platform yesterday, only losing out to established multiplayer hits like Apex Legends, CS:GO, Dota 2 and Lost Ark.

There is no end date for the MultiVersus open beta at this time, so it is likely going to remain online until the developers are ready to push the 1.0 update. The game is available with crossplay across PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC.

KitGuru Says: I've only had the chance to play a few 1v1s, but so far I am having fun. The current character roster is nice, but there are endless possibilities for future updates and a number of heroes we already know about have yet to be implemented, so there's plenty more on the way.
