Take-Two CEO plans shorter marketing cycle for GTA 6

Grand Theft Auto 6 was announced for 2025 but so far, we've still only had one trailer and three months into the year, we appear to be no closer to a proper release date either. Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, shed some light on the marketing plan for GTA 6 this week, indicating a much shorter gap from Trailer 2 to release.

Speaking with Bloomberg, Zelnick explained that the goal for Grand Theft Auto 6 is to have a shorter marketing cycle and to build up as much anticipation as possible. This long period of silence since the first trailer is indeed part of that effort to build anticipation.

“The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I’ve ever seen for an entertainment property, and I’ve been around the block a few times, and I’ve been in every entertainment business there is”, Zelnick told Bloomberg.

“We do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance, and we’ve found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation. We don’t always get it exactly right, but that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Currently, Grand Theft Auto 6 is due out later this year but with the scope of the game being so large, some fans are concerned that it may be delayed to 2026. Many publishers around the games industry are also eagerly awaiting GTA 6 news so that they can plan to release games around it.

KitGuru Says: I feel like we'll be waiting until the Summer to get a big new drop of GTA 6 news. As far as release dates go, assuming it is arriving this year, it will likely be in the October-November timeframe to get that holiday season boost.
