Take-Two CEO says GTA 6 Ultimate Edition is outselling cheaper version

Grand Theft Auto 6 pre‑orders are off to a strong start, and according to Take‑Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, players are overwhelmingly opting for the more expensive version of the game. In a new interview, Zelnick confirmed that the $100 Ultimate Edition is currently outselling the $80 Standard Edition.

In an interview with CNBC, Zelnick said: “It is skewing more to the Premium Edition, but that might be a reflection, again, of the fact that the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre‑ordering.” He added that while early demand for GTA 6 is clearly strong, it’s still too early to determine how pre‑orders will translate into long‑term sales once the game launches.

Zelnick also addressed the game’s pricing structure, noting that Take‑Two set the Standard Edition at $80 and the Ultimate Edition at $100. “Our job, as we see it, is to always deliver way more value to the consumer than what we charge,” he said. “We understand that a consumer experience is the intersection of the thing itself and what you paid for it.”

It is worth noting that not everyone will like the things Rockstar decided to lock behind the Ultimate Edition of the game, as a number of in-game shops and buildings will be ‘permanently closed' and unusable by standard edition buyers, which could be immersion breaking. However, it also appears that plenty of fans are happy to pay for the more expensive edition of GTA 6 based on Rockstar's strong past releases.

KitGuru Says: GTA 6 isn't alone in this. Plenty of other games in recent years like Forza Horizon, have seen higher purchases of the more expensive edition. However, usually the hook there is earlier access a few days before the official launch day, which isn't the case for GTA 6.
