Valve is working on a new game called ‘Neon Prime’

It has been a while since Valve last released a game, and even longer since the company started a new IP. Soon, we might be getting both, as Valve has registered a trademark for a new game called ‘Neon Prime’.

Valve filed a trademark for the name, filing it under video game software, confirming it is indeed a game and not something else. Valve filed for the trademark in September, and typically, that would mean the game is close to being announced. Valve’s previous title, Half-Life: Alyx was announced in November 2019 and released in March 2020. Hopefully Valve will be looking to officially announce Neon Prime before the end of the year.

As for what this game could be – a former Valve employee shared one interesting idea on the Resetera forum. According to the source, Valve was previously working on an FTL-style ship building game, so this could potentially be that.

Aside from this new game, Valve has several other known projects in the works, including a new Half-Life VR game, and another project called ‘Citadel’, which is supposed to offer asynchronous multiplayer between someone in VR and another person using a traditional PC.

Valve has not officially announced any of these titles, so all information has come from patent/trademark filings, as well as datamining various Sources games.

KitGuru Says: FTL is one of my favourite indie games of all time. If Valve is doing something similar with a Sci-Fi setting, then chances are it has some very good ideas for gameplay, which has always been the company’s focus.
