Rocket League is removing player-to-player trading

One of the more interesting mechanics introduced in Rocket League was the ability for you to trade your acquired items with other players, allowing you to coordinate for specific items, or simply to pawn off any duplicates you’ve gained over the many hours of playing. Unfortunately, this feature is now set to be removed fully later this year in order to “align with Epic’s overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies.”

Making the announcement on their blog, the team at Psyonix said “Player-to-Player Trading will be removed from Rocket League on December 5 at 4 p.m. PST. We’re making this change to align with Epic’s overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies, where items aren’t tradable, transferrable, or sellable. This opens up future plans for some Rocket League vehicles to come to other Epic games over time, supporting cross-game ownership.”

While pitched as a positive move, this could in essence force players to spend more money on the in-game shop in order to obtain their desired items. The team released an FAQ alongside the announcement detailing how this change will affect Rocket League’s current structure such as with duplicate items, saying:

“What do I do with my duplicate or unwanted items? The Trade-In system for Core Items, Tournament Items, and Blueprints will allow players to continue trading in eligible duplicate or unwanted items to receive a random new item of higher rarity.”

The full FAQ can be found HERE. For those who have been playing Rocket League since launch all the way back in 2015, you might want to get in a few final trades ahead of the 5th of December.
