The Last of Us Part III is reportedly in development

With the release of The Last of Us Part II in 2020, fans of Naughty Dog’s games have been eagerly awaiting the studio’s next original project. There has been a great deal of back-and-forth between fans regarding whether this title is The Last of Us Part III or a separate new project. Following up from claims made late last year, according to one insider Naughty Dog are indeed working on TLOU Part III.

According to known film leaker DanielRPK (who has also in the past leaked video game news), “The Last of Us Part 3 is currently in the works” – with no additional information shared.

This follows on from claims made by another leaker (ViewerAnon) back in December 2022, who stated at the time “Dr. Uckmann's [Neil Druckmann’s] next game is THE LAST OF US PART III which is currently in production at Naughty Dog.”

Naughty Dog themselves have neither confirmed nor denied the existence of The Last of Us Part III, with Druckmann saying in March earlier this year that what they are working on is something that the entire studio picked due to it being set to keep them excited for years to come – suggesting that it is likely a brand new IP.

At this point, it seems as though a Part III for The Last of Us is inevitable. That said, with Part II releasing a few years ago; the Part I remake only just coming out on PC; HBO’s The Last of Us recently concluding its first season and a multiplayer game set in the universe of TLOU being on the way, fans of the franchise are not hurting for content. Whether Part III is in development or not, I hope Naughty Dog are also gearing up to announce a brand new IP. We will have to wait and see.
