Apple to replace Game Center with new cross-device gaming app

This week, we learned that Apple has acquired its first game studio, after years of focusing solely on third-party deals to keep its Apple Arcade service afloat. Now, it turns out that Apple is planning a whole new gaming ecosystem for its devices.

According to Bloomberg's Apple expert, Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to announce its new gaming ecosystem within the same week of the Nintendo Switch 2's launch. The new gaming app will have centralised achievements; friends lists and communication tools and leaderboards.

Apple will make the announcement at its annual WWDC event, which takes begins on June 9th this year. It will completely replace the Game Center, which has been a long-forgotten part of the iOS package.

The app will also serve as a vehicle to better promote Apple Arcade, which is a surprisingly decent service if you do like to dabble in mobile gaming, especially as the service does not allow for microtransaction-heavy titles to join the library.
