Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says that the company want to be the home screen of any Android mobile smartphone. The Telegraph in the UK say “It is called ‘Home’ because it is on the home screen of any Android phone’.
Zuckerberg spoke at a recent event to say that the end user can have an experience on Android phones that they can’t have on any other platform. This new product is a family of applications designed around people’s Facebook connections.
Users will be able to download Facebook’s Home software on April 12th and the software will then become the ‘hub’ of their Android smartphone.
When the user installs the software it will be placed on the home screen of Android phones allowing people to easily share things with their Facebook friends. When the phone is first turned on users will be shown photographs and updates from their Facebook feeds. According to reports, there will also be ads – at a later date. Sure to prove unpopular.
Facebook have currently 1.06 billion monthly users and 680 million log into Facebook from a mobile device. This enhanced mobile integration may start attracting a wider audience of mobile advertisers, boosting company profits.
