Counter-Strike 2 hits new all-time peak with 1.8 million concurrent players

For well over a decade, Valve’s CS:GO (now Counter-Strike 2) has sat at or near the top of the Steam Charts, typically seeing a minimum of 500k players – and often peaking at over 1 million. Even so, the game has continued to outdo itself, with CS2 hitting a new all-time peak concurrent count of over 1.82 million.

Setting a new personal best, Valve’s Counter-Strike 2 peaked at a total of 1,824,989 concurrent players; hitting this milestone at roughly 2PM UK time last Saturday. For context, the previous peak was achieved on the 1st of May 2023 wherein the game surpassed 1.81 million concurrents.

Interestingly, this milestone also coincided with Steam’s own platform record, just about beating its previous concurrent users count with a total of 40,486,225 online players. Given that the platform only hit 40 million for the first time a couple weeks ago, it’s safe to assume that we’ve now found our new barometer for average user counts.

One possible reason for this growth however could be due to the ongoing Steam sale, in which millions will be purchasing and playing newly acquired titles.

Even so, this milestone is notable. It will be interesting to see whether CS2 will manage to break the 2 million barrier eventually.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
