ECS Liva Z7 Plus Mini PC Review (Core Ultra 5 125H)

Rating: 8.0.

The Z7 Plus is the second mini PC from ECS that I’ve reviewed here at KitGuru, following the Z5 Plus we looked at back in April 2024. This newer model features an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H CPU, 16GB of DDR5 memory running at 5600MT/s and a 256GB M.2 SSD – all packaged in a chassis measuring just 115 x 115x  55mm. Today we take a look at how this tiny machine stacks up against the competition.

Cons:

  • CPU gets very hot when under load.
  • Not yet widely stocked.

KitGuru says: The Z7 Plus is an improvement over the Z5 Plus and delivers solid performance considering the price. Although CPU temperature when under load is a concern.

KitGuru Games: DLSS 5 misses the point

It would be hard to argue that NVIDIA’s DLSS technologies haven’t been a net positive to the PC space, with the machine-learning based upscaler successfully translating lower resolution inputs into a final image which is perceivably sharper while hogging fewer resources. Though somewhat more contentious, the next evolution of DLSS came in the form of Frame Generation, using ML in order to generate additional frames for high-refresh rate gaming. Both techniques can have their issues, but generally speaking they’ve allowed for more people to experience higher-end titles at increased frame rates. DLSS 5, however, takes a sharp pivot, with a very different end goal in mind than the performance-boosting versions that came before.
