Sony releases thank you to fans after 2.1 million PS4s sold

Sony looks to have firmly secured round one in this heavyweight matchup between previously next-gen, now current-gen consoles, managing to sell over 2.1 million consoles since its launch earlier this month. While Microsoft's Xbox One hasn't had quite as long to sell in the US, it's been available in more territories for much longer than the PS4, suggesting a weighted interest in Sony's machine.

There's still a few countries to go for both machines, with Japan being perhaps the largest ignored market (not getting either the Xbox One or the PS4 until 2014), but with over 30 countries now given the chance to play with the new consoles, it seems a small consensus has been reached about which is the most popular. To celebrate this, Sony released a thank you video to fans via its blog. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbB_yQ0vrf4′]

“This is for the players,” shows some of the PS4 launch events around the world, including the aftermath where gamers grabbed hold of their PS4s, some dancing in the street, most grinning at the camera, but almost nobody asking the film crew to move so they can get home and play.

That girl actually has a PS4 trilby.

KitGuru Says: I'm not sure whether I want to applaud the community feel these events seem to have, or denounce its strange, cultish consumerism. It's great to see everyone being pals and getting along, but then again, they're doing so because they're all spending hundreds of pounds on some electronics. Rallying around that seems kind of cheap.

PlayStation CEO seemingly confirms Sony’s return to exclusivity

For a few years, Sony had been porting over many of its single-player PlayStation 5 games to PC at an increasing rate. This seemed to stop rather suddenly, with the most recent addition being The Last of Us Part II back in early 2025. With rumours claiming that Sony has reversed-course on bringing more single-player titles to PC, PlayStation’s CEO has now officially commented on the matter.

  1. It’s a pity that they didn’t consider that a huge number of people would buy them and make sure that the PSN network could cope with the demand. I still can’t access the PSN network on my PS3!
