Crytek hit with layoffs across multiple development teams

Over the past two years, many studios across the industry have had to undergo layoffs, leading to thousands of developers needing to find new work. Unfortunately, things aren't turning around in 2025 just yet. This time around, Crytek has announced a round of layoffs.

Following on from last year's launch of Hunt: Showdown 1896, Crytek has announced that it is letting go of around 15 percent of its workforce. The company is estimated to employ 400 people, so around 60 people are set to lose their jobs.

Crytek says that “unfavourable market dynamics” have led to this conclusion. The layoffs will be split up between development teams and Crytek's shared services team. The company says that is already attempted other cost-cutting measures but ultimately, layoffs were “inevitable”.

Fans of Hunt: Showdown have no need to worry though, as Crytek is “fully committed” to keeping the game alive and expanding it with new content. The studio is also still working on perfecting the CryEngine.

Unfortunately, development on Crysis 4 has been paused. It is unclear if the project will be revisited anytime soon. For now, the main focus appears to be Hunt: Showdown 1896.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
