Steam will now warn you if an Early Access game has been abandoned

Over the past year, Valve has introduced a ton of new quality of life improvements to its Steam platform, including but not limited to the revamped Family library sharing; game recording; increased transparency and more. In trying to further these efforts, the platform has now introduced a new system warning those wanting to buy Early Access games if the title has been left dormant.

As noted by SteamDB via Bluesky, Early Access games on Steam now feature a new system which highlights on the store page if the title has not been updated in a significant amount of time, with it writing:

“The last update made by the developers was over [X] months ago. The information and timeline described by the developers here may no longer be up to date.”

Alongside this, Valve includes any statements made by the developer regarding the lack of updates – assuming they’ve commented on the matter.

With Steam being one of the primary platforms which helped push the notion of Early Access into the mainstream, it is good to see Valve actively working to ensure such systems include as many protections for consumers as possible.
