EA to bring Origin to Mac, Android next year

EA has today announced at GamesCon that it plans to bring its Origin game store to Macs, Android smartphones, Facebook and even Smart TVs. Electronic Arts has moved away from the Steam platform recently but now intends to follow in its footsteps.

No specific release dates have been announced yet but the Mac version has a tentative release date of February next year. It is entirely possible that the Android and other versions could also launch around this time.

It is unknown how Origin with co-exist with the existing Windows platform but hopefully there will be an equivalent of Steam's Steam Play, which allows gamers to adopt a buy once, play anywhere approach.

KitGuru says: With even the likes of Gabe Newell speaking out against Windows 8, gamer's options are gradually increasing.
