Sony PS4 two years in development

News for the new Xbox and Playstation are heating up. It would appear that Sony have been working on the Playstation 4 for a few years now, if employees dates are accurate.

Sony have remained tight lipped about the Playstation 3 replacement, however one of their staff members spotted a Linkedin profile of Attila Vass, former research and development director for Sony. In his resume he mentioned that he worked on the ‘Next Generation Playstation” from 2010 to 2012, including some development on graphics and security. No information was posted however which could have caused some serious legal problems for Vass.

He said on his profile “I worked on graphics ( COLLADA, PSGL ) and a lot of network related technologies ( advertising, telemetry, PVRs ) for the Playstation2-x, PSP, Vita and Next Generation platforms. Platform security was occupying most of my time at the last years… ”

Industry rumours say that Sony are not rushing to release the Playstation 4 as sales of the current model are still strong. Many people buy the Playstation 3 initially for the bluray player, which is still classed as very capable, even against leading standalone players.

Kitguru says: It is all complete guesswork as to release dates, but many analysts agree that Microsoft will be first out of the gate with their upcoming Xbox 360 replacement.
