Firefox breaks record for downloads

Firefox 4 was released last week and KitGuru reported on the early download figures during the day, which were already looking very healthy indeed. The new browser was downloaded 7.1 million times in 24 hours followed by a second day figure of 8.75 million.

Firefox 3 in 2008 was downloaded 8.1 million times in a single say. Microsoft documented a 2.3 million download ratio for Internet Explorer 9, which at the time looked very strong indeed. To be fair to Microsoft however, many updates for this browser are handled inside corporate environments and are handled over a longer period of time by IT departments. Previous analysis has shown that many Firefox downloaders are personal and power users, not corporate.

KitGuru says: Firefox 4 your new favourite browser?
