First Nvidia RTX 4080 benchmark scores arrive

We're just a week away from Nvidia launching the RTX 4080, and thanks to early samples floating around, we now have our first 3rd-party benchmark results to look at, including Geekbench and 3DMark scores, giving us a better view of how it compares to the RTX 4090 and previous-gen graphics cards.

Benchleaks was the first to spot the Geekbench entries. These include two OpenCL (1, 2), Vulkan, and CUDA test runs. All tests were conducted with an Asus ROG Crosshair X670E Hero/Extreme motherboard equipped with a Ryzen 9 7950X processor and 32GB of memory.

As expected, the RTX 4080 was considerably faster than its predecessor and beat the RTX 3090 Ti. The Vulkan score was the least impressive, scoring just 5.5% above the RTX 3090 Ti. In the worst OpenCL run, the GPU was only 8% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti, but the second run was slightly better, outperforming the RTX 30 series flagship by 12.5%. The CUDA result was the best out of the four entries, scoring 15.5% more than the RTX 3090 Ti. Regardless of how you put it, these scores are considerably lower than what the RTX 4090 can do. On average, the RTX 4090 is about 36.4% faster.

Moving on to the 3DMark Time Spy scores shared by MEGAsizeGPU, the RTX 4080 (Inno3D RTX 4080 iChill X3) was able to outperform the RTX 3090 Ti by 31.8% in the Performance preset (1440p) and 32.4% in the Extreme preset (4K). Still, the RTX 4090 is about 30.8% faster than the RTX 4080.

The leaker also showed that the card hit 117FPS in the Forza Horizon 5 benchmark (custom settings), whereas the RTX 4090 achieved an average of 137FPS in the same conditions. All these tests were run with the GPU set at 320W TDP, which allowed it to boost up to 2.9GHz.

Nvidia will release the RTX 4080 GPU on November 16th, so expect to see more game benchmarks and other performance results sometime in the next week.

KitGuru says: The RTX 4080 will be shortly followed by new high-end GPUs from AMD, so it will be interesting to see performance comparisons in a few weeks' time. Are any of you planning on picking up the RTX 4080?
