Don’t expect the Metal Gear Master Collection Volume 2 anytime soon

Konami confirmed plans for a Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2 around the same time that Volume 1 released, packing HD remasters of all the original games up to and including Metal Gear Solid 3. Unfortunately for fans looking to get their hands on Metal Gear Solid 4, Konami is still figuring out the technical side of porting and remastering the remaining games for Volume 2.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2 won't be coming out anytime soon. During an episode of the Metal Gear Production Hotline series, which is sort of like a developer diary, featuring series producer, Noriaki Okamura, we learn that Konami is still figuring out the plan for Volume 2, indicating that it is not yet in full development.

In the video, Okamura says (via VGC): “We had HD ports of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3 – or, sorry, not really for 1, but the other two. But most of the titles released after those don’t have a pre-existing HD port we could use.”

“So with all these factors to consider with the lineup, anything along the lines of ‘what’s in it?’ or questions like ‘how long will it be in development, when’ll it be out’, it’s going to be a little while until we can get a clear picture, but when we do, we’ll let you know here.”

The biggest task here will of course be porting Metal Gear Solid 4, which released as a PlayStation 3 exclusive and has never appeared on any other platform. Due to the PS3's unique Cell architecture, even emulating old PS3 titles can be difficult. Hopefully it doesn't take Konami much longer to figure out what it wants to do though, as there are many fans who never got to experience MGS 4 eagerly awaiting the Master Collection Vol. 2.

KitGuru Says: I've been under the assumption that the second collection would already be well into development, but it seems that is not the case. It is difficult to say just how long a port of MGS 4 will take, but hopefully the developers can get that figured out sooner rather than later.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
