Nintendo to host its first General Direct in 9 months later today

The past week has seen many of the biggest video game publishers taking to their virtual stages to announce a plethora of upcoming and exciting titles, with the likes of PlayStation, Xbox and countless others unveiling what’s next in store for fans. Finally, following some earlier rumours, Nintendo is set to join the fray, confirming that they will be hosting a General Nintendo Direct later today.

Making the official announcement via their socials, Nintendo confirmed that they will be hosting a lengthy Direct showcase later today, writing: “A new #NintendoDirect is coming! Tune in [today], Tuesday June 9th, at 15:00 (UK time) for around 50 minutes focused on games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch this year.”

While its duration alone is enough to excite many fans, other indicators that this is set to be a big event comes in the fact that this is a General Nintendo Direct.

General Nintendo Direct

For the uninitiated, the Switch maker has split its Directs into multiple different forms: Nintendo Direct Minis; Partner Showcases; Specials; Indie Worlds and of course General Directs.

Given that we have not gotten a General Direct in 9 months or so, expectations are likely to be high for the showcase. As expected however, Nintendo did not give any indications on what to expect, and so pretty much anything could show up. A new 3D Mario platformer? The next Zelda? We won’t have to wait long to find out.

KitGuru says: Are you looking forward to the Direct? What do you hope will show up? On the other hand, what do you expect to be announced? Let us know down below.
