Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail launches this July

It has been quite some time since Square Enix first announced the next major expansion for its top-selling MMO, Final Fantasy 14, The new expansion, titled ‘Dawntrail', now finally has a release date after months of secrecy.

Speaking at PAX East over the weekend, Final Fantasy 14 director and producer, Naoki Yoshida, announced that the Dawntrail expansion would officially launch on the 2nd of July 2024. However, those who pre-order can get access a few days earlier, starting on the 28th of June.

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail will be landing well ahead of this year's impending World of Warcraft expansions. Final Fantasy 14 has given WoW a real run for its money in recent years, going from strength to strength and rising to be perhaps the most popular subscription-based MMO currently on the market.

Square Enix has remained aggressive with its MMO, consistently delivering new content with critically acclaimed expansions like Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers and Endwalker. Dawntrail will mark the game's fifth major expansion and promises to usher in a new era for the game, after the major arc finale that took place in Endwalker.

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
