AMD launches the Radeon RX 7900M high-end mobile GPU

AMD has unveiled the Radeon RX 7900M, its new flagship GPU designed for gaming laptops, marking the debut of the Navi 31 GPU in the mobile market. The first laptop to feature AMD's new mobile GPU is the Alienware m18 R1, with more to come in the months ahead. 

The RX 7900M redefines mobile graphics with a TGP of up to 180W. In contrast, the RTX 40 series has a maximum power output of 150W (175W with Dynamic Boost). In the case of the m18 R1 laptop, the GPU's TGP is 160W, but it can increase to 200W using AMD's SmartShift Max technology. According to AMD, the RX 7900M is 7% quicker (on average) than the RTX 4080 Laptop GPU at 1440p.

 

The Alienware m18 R1 is currently the only system to offer the RX 7900M, pushing its cost to $2,800. However, for that price, you also get a Ryzen 9 7945HX, Windows 11 Home, 32GB of DDR5-5200 memory, a 1TB PCIe M.2 SSD, and an 18-inch IPS FHD display with a 480Hz refresh rate.

Soon, we expect to see other manufacturers offer the RX 7900M as an option on their gaming laptops.
