Fourth main series Witcher game to enter production in 2024

CD Projekt Red has announced plans to begin production on the next Witcher game later this year. This title is currently called “Polaris” and is supposed to be the first of a new trilogy that will expand the medieval fantasy universe. 

In an interview with Reuters, Adam Badowski, CDPR's new joint CEO, stated that the company aims to have around 400 people working on the project by mid-year. Despite not revealing a premiere date for this new title, industry analysts predict it will be released in 2026 or 2027, meaning there will be some wait before we get our hands on the next game from CDPR.

CD Projekt has been focused on improving the studio after the buggy launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in late 2020. The company has since announced plans for several new games and has confirmed that Cyberpunk sales have exceeded 25 million copies. Badowski has also confirmed that a sequel to Cyberpunk, code-named “Orion”, is currently in the conceptual phase. By the end of the year, the CEO hopes to have approximately 80 people on the project.

The company is also considering adding multiplayer elements, although Remi Nowakowski, the other joint CEO at CDPR, has not shared any details yet. He also stated that the company's Polish studios aren't expecting to be hiring in any real numbers, but the North American studio will continue to expand.

Lastly, CD Projekt Red has formed a team to investigate the potential applications of AI in game production. Badowski has stated that AI could help improve specific processes in game development, but it would not replace people.
