Sony posts job listings in preperation for next-generation PlayStation

While there are hopes that the next-generation of consoles could arrive as early as next year, it’s worth remembering that Sony has only just made its tentatively titled PlayStation 5 official. In fact, the company is still getting the ball rolling, actively recruiting for a senior product manager and senior software engineer for its proprietary network.

First spotted on ResetEra forums, both job listings went live on October 14th looking for San Francisco-based workers to help pave the way for Sony’s next-generation console. While neither the ‘PlayStation 5’ nor its more common acronym ‘PS5’ are mentioned throughout the posts, both roles are expected to pave the way for a next-generation PlayStation experience.

The senior product manager role appeared on LinkedIn, and will task the successful candidate to “analyse industry trends and competition to contribute towards product strategy.” They will then turn that product strategy into an “executable roadmap” for the “next generation PlayStation campaign.”

Another ResetEra user by the name of Gemüsepizza revealed another job listing for a senior software engineer, who will help to develop “platforms that enable delivering intelligent experiences to next generation of PlayStation devices.” This is likely to concern the PlayStation Network given mention of Sony’s “cloud-based network software services.”

There’s no hint as to how far along Sony is with its internal roadmap, but hopefully this could make way for a more public timeline in the near future. The remainder of the forum pertains to speculation of when the PlayStation 5 will make an appearance, with the frontrunner being E3 2019, however readers are urged to take this with a pinch of salt for the time being.

KitGuru Says: Personally, I think the PS4 has a little more life left in it, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we were made to wait a little while longer. When do you want to see the PlayStation 5 debut?
