Microsoft brings cloud streaming to Activision games

One of Microsoft’s core strategies for the Xbox has been its rapid adoption of cloud streaming as part of the company’s ‘play anywhere’ initiative. With Activision Blizzard now securely under the wings of Microsoft, the console manufacturer has announced that a wave of ABK titles are coming to streaming.

Making the announcement on their blog, Joe Skrebels – Xbox Wire Editor-in-Chief – said “When we welcomed Activision Blizzard to Team Xbox a few weeks ago, we reaffirmed our goal of bringing more Xbox games to more players on more devices. To that end, we made a commitment to the European Commission to enable European Economic Area (EEA) gamers to play current and future Activision Blizzard PC and console games that they hold a license for on cloud game streaming services beyond Xbox Cloud Gaming.”

While currently limited to the EEA region, 4 major Activision titles are already being updated to comply with cloud streaming’s TOS, namely COD Modern Warfare II, MWIII, Warzone and Crash Team Rumble. That said, the full list of titles (so far) getting cloud streaming has been released, including but not limited to:

• Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
• Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
• Call of Duty: Mobile
• Call of Duty: Vanguard
• Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
• Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time
• – Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
• Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
• Guitar Hero Live
• Prototype
• Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
• Spyro Reignited Trilogy
• Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2

While cloud streaming may not be the preferred way to play games by most, it is certainly a value-added service, giving more flexibility and allowing players to easily hop in and out of a game without needing to download potentially hundreds of gigabytes of data.
