Smite is getting a sequel built on Unreal Engine 5

Hi-Rez Studios and Titan Forge Games are teaming up to create Smite 2, the successor to the popular third-person MOBA action game, Smite. With the original game boasting an impressive 40 million players, fans eagerly anticipate what the sequel will bring.

Smite 2 is set to feature a significant upgrade over the original game, as it will be based on Unreal Engine 5. As such, gamers can expect better visuals and effects, updating the game's graphics to today's standards. In addition, the developers have promised gameplay enhancements, such as a redesigned user interface and improved matchmaking. The game will also be playable on various platforms, including the PlayStation 5, Steam Deck, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

One of the most exciting features of Smite 2 is its complete cross-play and advancement, allowing friends to play together regardless of platform and keep their progress across different devices. The game has been designed with multiple input systems in mind, including keyboard and mouse, controller, and even Steam Deck, giving players more options and flexibility.

It's important to note that the original Smite game will remain available for the foreseeable future. However, not all cosmetics from Smite will be carried over to Smite 2 due to the challenge of transferring over ten years of material. The developers have stated they cannot port every skin to Smite 2 as it would require an estimated 246 person-years of labour. Nonetheless, the game is expected to offer a fresh experience with new skins and cosmetics for players to collect.

Those eager to try out Smite 2 can sign up for the alpha playtest this spring on the game's official website. As with the original Smite, the sequel will be free to play.
