The Knights of the Old Republic Remake may have been cancelled

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a fan favourite title and we've been hoping for a return to the KOTOR series for a long time now. It looked like we were finally going to get exactly that when Knights of the Old Republic Remake was announced back in 2021. However, it would appear that the game may have been quietly cancelled.

The Knights of the Old Republic Remake was announced by Aspyr with a short teaser trailer during the PlayStation Showcase in 2021. In 2022, it was confirmed that Aspyr is no longer leading development on the project, with Embracer Group moving it over to Saber Interactive. Now amidst restructuring efforts and lay-offs at Embracer Group's owned studios, it would seem that the KOTOR remake has now been cancelled.

Fans spotted that the original teaser trailer, as well as social media posts advertising the game, have been quietly hidden from public view this week. Neither Sony nor Embracer Group have issued a statement yet but with the remake's announcement seemingly being wiped from the web, rumours of the game's cancellation are now circulating.

The KOTOR Remake was already having a somewhat troubled development. While Aspyr was chosen to lead the project due to past experience working on versions of the KOTOR titles, there was an apparent disagreement somewhere along the way, leading to Aspyr being booted off of the remake, transferring the development over to Saber Interactive.

Not helping matters is Embracer's current financial situation, which has taken an ugly turn this year, leading to lots of lay-offs and some studio closures.

KitGuru Says: A KOTOR Remake should have been a homerun but the situation is not looking good at this point in time. If this current version of the Remake is cancelled, then we do hope that Disney finds another studio to take on the project.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
