Nvidia has reportedly cancelled plans for RTX 4090 Ti

While it was assumed we would see an RTX 4090 Ti at some point this generation, plans appear to have changed. According to reports this week, the RTX 4090 Ti has now been cancelled.

We've known of a number of cancelled GPUs through leaks over the last couple of generations. During the RTX 30's lifecycle, we were expecting to see a 20GB RTX 3080, but plans for an official release were cancelled. An MSI prototype of this very card recently appeared for sale online. Now, Twitter-based tech leaker, Kopite7kimi has said that there “won't be an RTX 4090 Ti anymore”.

The current RTX 4090 is already pushing the physical limitations of PC hardware with its monstrous dimensions and weighty coolers across the Founder's Edition version and custom versions from AiBs. A more powerful RTX 4090 Ti may have been a step too far.

While it is now claimed that the RTX 4090 Ti is cancelled, Nvidia does apparently have plans for updated versions of other RTX 40 graphics cards. Apparently, some AD103 and AD106 chips will be repurposed for new versions of the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 but we don't have any further details at this time.

KitGuru Says: As always, take rumours with a grain of salt. Still, given how powerful the RTX 4090 already is, I'm not too surprised to hear that we won't be getting an even more powerful version. We may have to wait for Nvidia's next generation of GPUs in late 2024/early 2025 to see the next leap in flagship gaming performance.
