Ghostwire: Tokyo surpasses 6 million players

Ghostwire: Tokyo was one of the more forgotten games of 2022. Originally pitched as a PlayStation exclusive, the game’s developers (Tango Gameworks) ended up being acquired by Microsoft midway through development. Following a year’s long exclusivity period, the game finally released on Xbox and Game Pass – with the game now having surpassed 6 million players.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Ghostwire: Tokyo account said: “6 MILLION PLAYERS have explored #GhostwireTokyo's spooky streets! That doesn't make those eerie alleyways any less haunted, of course…Thank you again to all our fans!”

Of course, 6 million players does not equate to 6 million copies sold, especially as the game has been available on both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra in the past. Still, the game’s current rate of adoption is interesting to see.

For context, Ghostwire: Tokyo reached 4 million total players back in May of this year. Just one month later the game hit another milestone with 5 million players. So, while the number of new players has slowed down somewhat, the unique and flashy first-person open world title continues to see new fans giving it a go.

While perhaps not the most innovative experience, Ghostwire: Tokyo was a genuinely fun game to play thanks to its frenetic combat and satisfying stealth. Hopefully the game’s success spawns a sequel at some point.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
